Thanks.  Okay I found the reason for the empty x's display.  My typsetting level in the display options had been set to Extended.  Setting it to Maple standard, displays it properly.

Thanks Pagan for the code and thanks Acer for getting me to dig deeper into my Maple settings.
Much appreciated.

Let it be known that there are some pitfalls to watch out for using Maple in document mode.  One must also be cautious about what settings the user has changed from the default settings.  It would almost be good idea to have a menu pad in Maple that displays to the user what settings he/she has changed or modified from the original settings.

hmm..., thanks but it doesn't seem to work.  I'm using maple 12 and it just outputs 5 x's without any superscripts.

Thanks!  That does the trick.

Well I think it works now.  I had to also replace Set with Maplets[tools][Set] as well.

Then I get two increasing black histogram bars.

@Robert Israel

The uses line seems to be giving Maple 12 a problem.

After removing plots from uses I recieved the same error.  Then I removed plottools and replaced rectangle with plottools[rectangle] , then still recieved the same error.  So after that I just completely removed the uses line and now a maplet opens up, but it's blank when it runs.

I only have access to Maple 12 right now and I keep getting an Error, invalid uses declaration.

I trust it works, but I'll have to wait until tonight to give it a try.  Thanks Robert.

Thanks.  I'll have to figure out how your code works.

In the meantime I've got mine to work as well.

**edit -added** That is I've got it working without ties.  For such a simple program it is quite difficult if you haven't a lot of programming experience.  And since the codings are so different when I get mine working I'll post the finished code.

Thanks Pagan and Joe.
