One method I use to produce a tolerable pdf file is

1) Make a copy of the worksheet

2) Change to a special style set with much smaller  text sizes.

3) Hide execution group boundaries.

4) Manually reduced the size of all plots and images.

One can, obviously, apply these changes to the original document, then reverse them sfter exporting to pdf. The plot sizes can be restored by recreating them.

To produce a high quality pdf, however, I use Latex: but not with the direct Maple translation, which also produces a mess.
